Activated carbon filter
Removal of free chlorine, taste, odour and organic matter. The most common way to remove chlorine ahead of reverse osmosis — membranes have a low tolerance to chlorine.

An activated carbon filter removes free chlorine and chlorine compounds, ozone, taste and odour, humic acid, oil, pesticide residues and the organic contamination other stages cannot hold, by adsorption.
Granular activated carbon is usually made from high-grade bituminous coal, anthracite or coconut shell. Steam activation increases its surface area roughly a hundredfold; that surface does the retaining.
The vessel can be synthetic (FRP), epoxy-coated carbon steel or 304/316 stainless steel, with hygienic design available. It is the most common way to remove chlorine ahead of reverse osmosis, because membranes tolerate chlorine poorly.

Other products in Media Filters
Sand filter
Removal of suspended solids and turbidity. The most common first stage in treatment lines; a graded sand–gravel bed provides depth filtration.
View →Iron–manganese filter
Oxidation and retention of dissolved iron and manganese in well water. The principal remedy for red–brown colour and sediment complaints.
View →Dolomite filter
Used to raise the pH of acidic water and correct its hardness balance. Particularly useful for stabilising the aggressive water leaving a reverse osmosis unit.
View →Filter media
Quartz sand, gravel, anthracite, activated carbon and special media. We supply media for bed replacement in existing filters.
