Drinking Water Preparation Systems

Filtration, membrane and disinfection stages configured together for in-plant drinking and utility water.

On an in-plant drinking and utility water line the aim is to deliver microbiological safety together with taste and mineral balance. The source may be mains or well water; the configuration changes accordingly.

Filtration is applied for suspended solids and taste–odour removal, a membrane stage where necessary, and disinfection as the final step. Which stages are required is determined by the water analysis and the applicable regulations.

How it works

Stages

  1. 01

    Coarse filtration

Suspended solids and sediment are retained.

  2. 02

    Activated carbon

Taste, odour and free chlorine are removed.

  3. 03

    Membrane stage

Where necessary, ion and microorganism control with NF or RO.

  4. 04

    Disinfection

A final safety stage with UV or chemical dosing.

Where it is used

Typical applications

  • Factory drinking water

Safe drinking and utility water for employees.

  • Canteen

Utility water on food preparation lines.

  • Well water

    Making off-mains sources usable.

  • Amenity buildings

Utility water in accommodation and administrative buildings.

Why is disinfection the last stage?

Disinfection makes sense at the end of a treatment line, not at its start. Disinfection carried out before suspended solids and organic load have been removed is both inefficient and consumes more chemical than necessary.

Where UV is chosen, the clarity of the water has a direct effect: in turbid water the light transmittance falls and the disinfection becomes less effective. That is why we position UV after the filtration stages.

Frequently asked questions

Is RO water suitable for drinking?

Because RO also retains minerals, a configuration that preserves the mineral balance is generally preferred for drinking water; the decision follows the water analysis.

UV or chlorine?

UV leaves no chemical behind but provides no lasting protection in the network; a residual disinfectant may be needed on long distribution lines.

Do we need to have an analysis carried out?

Yes. For drinking water, both the configuration and regulatory compliance depend directly on the analysis result.
