Sodium metabisulphite (SMBS) neutralises chlorine in the treatment process and in doing so protects reverse osmosis membranes.
It is used ahead of the membrane as an alternative or a complement to an activated carbon filter. Beyond water treatment it is also used in the food, textile, mining and paper industries.
